Tanyptera Project - Picture-winged Flies Workshop

You’re strolling through town when you spot something: a fly that’s dressed like it’s off to a disco. Wings with bold patterns, strutting about the windowsill as if it owns the place. If you’ve ever looked twice at these weird and wonderful aerial artists, you’re not alone – and now’s your chance to get properly acquainted.

What’s It About?

This October, the World Museum hosts a workshop all about picture-winged flies, thanks to the Tanyptera Project. Fancy getting to grips with the main families of these insects? This event promises expert-led activities tailored for anyone curious about flies that refuse to be boring. Whether you’re a seasoned bug-watcher or you can barely tell a bluebottle from a butter mint, you’ll learn what sets picture-winged flies apart, how to identify different types, and why they’re more important than you might think. The workshop is spread over two days for a proper deep dive.
