Noël Coward’s ‘Present Laughter’ Brings Glamour and Banter to Liverpool’s Playhouse

On a chilly October evening, you could do worse than swapping your front room for a plush seat in Liverpool’s Playhouse. There’ll be plenty more laughs inside, anyway––Coward never needed central heating to turn up the heat.

What’s it about?

Present Laughter is Noël Coward’s much-loved comedy about fame, farce, and flaming egos. This production, according to the Everyman & Playhouse’s official whats-on, stars Tracy-Ann Oberman, with acclaim from The Guardian for a “blisteringly hilarious” performance. The story follows celebrated actor Garry Essendine as he tries – and fails – to keep his life organised while fans, friends and flings keep barging through his door. Expect sharp repartee, backstage chaos, and more self-dramatics than in most dressing rooms after panto.

When is it on?

This run lands at the Playhouse Theatre from 20–24 October 2026. That’s a full working week to soak up some theatre with a dash of old-school glamour.

Where?

The show is on at the Playhouse Theatre, just off Williamson Square, right by the heart of town. Perfect for a bit of culture before a post-show chippy.

Tickets

Tickets for Present Laughter range from £17 to £51, depending on how close you fancy getting to all that stage-side drama. For official bookings, go through the Everyman & Playhouse site: tickets.everymanplayhouse.com

More information

You’ll find full show details and performance info straight from the theatre at the official event page: everymanplayhouse.com/event/present-laughter

And if you notice anyone in the next seat quoting Coward lines at the interval, don’t worry – it’s only natural round here.
