There’s always that unmistakable whiff as you step through the doors of the World Museum in December – a mix of excitement, a bit of Christmas cheer, and, for one day only, a proper bit of ancient luxury. If you’re after something a little different this festive season, there’s a workshop that’ll show you how to make candles like a wise man – scented with history and just as good for the stories after.
What’s It About?
Make and Learn: Gold, Frankincense, and Myrrh is your chance to roll your sleeves up and create a scented beeswax candle, just like they might have done back in the days of the ancient world. Instead of grabbing a bag of festive tat from the high street, you’ll be getting hands-on with natural scents that have been prized for centuries. It’s as much about learning the old ways as it is about going home with something you made yourself – and let’s be honest, it’ll be less stressful than last-minute present shopping in town.
When Is It On?
This one-off workshop takes place on 5 December 2026. Definitely one for the diary if you fancy getting creative ahead of the big day.
Where Is It?
You’ll find it all happening at World Museum, William Brown Street, Liverpool, L3 8EN. No chance of missing it if you’re anywhere near St George’s Hall. Just look for the big building full of dinosaurs, mummies and – for one day, at least – the best-smelling candles in Liverpool.
Tickets
You’ll need a ticket to take part. Book your spot through the official World Museum page: Book tickets here.

A proper excuse to spend an afternoon getting creative, learning a little history and coming away with your own scented candle. Dead handy if Auntie Carol’s already got enough socks.
