The Lady Lever: art, industry, and international exchange

Standing in Port Sunlight’s leafy calm, the Lady Lever Art Gallery looks every bit like it fell straight out of a period drama – stained glass, marble columns, the lot. But if you’ve only ever nipped in for a look at the pre-Raphaelite paintings and the odd bit of blue and white porcelain, there’s a whole international story you might have missed. That’s about to change on 24 October 2026, when the gallery throws open the doors for a one-off event exploring just how far a bit of Scouse ambition (and soap) can get you.

What’s It About?

More than just a wander round some nice art, this event is all about the connections between Liverpool’s legendary soap magnate, Lord Leverhulme, local industry, and a global eye for art. Through a special tour and handling session, you’ll discover exactly why the Lady Lever Art Gallery sits where it does and how its collections link Merseyside with stories spread across continents. Expect a few surprises along the way, from the empire-building days of Sunlight Soap to masterpieces brought in from all over the world, all under one Wirral roof.

When Is It On?

This event is on for one day only – Friday, 24 October 2026.
